Purple Dragon and NEXUS Luxury Collection are looking to recruit a new Play Manager for their New York Tribeca Club.
Our brand-new Purple Dragon City Club space gives our junior members a host of adventures and experiences all designed to ignite creativity, curiosity and communication. From arts and crafts to STEM, cooking to yoga, Jedi training to campfire tales, there are boundless opportunities to burn off steam, socialize and have fun.
Our Play Manager is the linchpin of the family offer. They are responsible for:
- ensuring consistent and excellent delivery of the program;
- maintaining an outstanding play environment;
- the safety and well-being of the community
They lead the play team, ensure that they are fully trained, motivated and delivering the play adventures to the highest standards. Play is the heart of our business and we take it seriously, it’s how children learn, and whilst we’re a hospitality business, there’s an educational by-product to what we do.

Purple Dragon, the multi-award-winning family club, founded 15 years ago in London, recently joined the NEXUS family and now sits at the heart of the global family offer.
Our New York Tribeca club, spanning 36,000 square feet, hosts a world-class gym, spa, social and entertaining spaces, complemented by state-of-the-art sports simulators, giving members a morning-to-night program of activities, amenities and events.
This is a new position and will play a key role in managing the transition from the existing play structure at NEXUS Club New York to the Purple Dragon framework.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure that the club is a safe and welcoming environment for both children and adults.
- Lead and motivate the Play Team, role model best practices, and ensure that the team is aware of and follows company expectations and procedures.
- Ensure that the Play Team is fully trained, that training is documented and reviewed regularly and that development meetings are held throughout the year.
- Lead recruitment for the Play Team in line with the company recruitment process.
- Draft the weekly roster planning and manage the holiday calendar for the Play Team, making sure appropriate staffing levels for overseeing the safe delivery of the programming and free play. This will be signed off and reviewed by the GM.
- Manage the daily operation of the Play Department and ensure that both structured and free play activities are delivered according to the club guidelines and themed planning and programming.
- Manage the supplier list for toys and resources, feeding back requests and ideas for new suppliers, or play equipment to the group planning team.
- Maintain budget control for the purchase of toys and resources from the approved list, ensuring standards of quality are maintained at all times.
- Ensure that all the materials required to deliver signature classes and adventures are available and that stock levels are reviewed and maintained.
- Lead inventory audits, support the team with coordination of materials, place orders for consumables and play materials within the budget assigned.
- Oversee and deliver the play experiences throughout the club, directing play team members and assisting and intervening where appropriate.
- Ensure that our team knows our fair play for all code, leading by example and communicating consistently, and applying the code with empathy and fairness.
Additional Duties:
- Lead on safeguarding for the club, training team members both within Play and across the other departments.
- Be the primary contact for parents and guardians of the children within the club, as well as making sure that all children within the space are members or registered guests of members.
- Ensure the environment is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety, in line with the club’s procedures and policies. Be alert to safety hazards at work, completing appropriate checks and recording and reporting of hazards and incidents.
- Perform such other duties as the Management of the Club might reasonably expect appropriate to the job grade, including opening or closing the Club.

Education and Experience:
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, especially one in a relevant field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a management or leadership role
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in supervising children’s activities in professional settings such as childcare, play, or educational environments.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
