Job Description:
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Fleet Manager to oversee our fleet operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of managing equipment maintenance and in-house mechanics.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies regarding vehicle operations, driver qualifications, and safety standards.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company's fleet of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, and specialized machinery.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
- Manage a team of in-house mechanics, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and effective maintenance operations.
- Coordinate with external service providers and vendors as needed for specialized repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Monitor fleet performance and identify opportunities for improvement in areas such as fuel efficiency, vehicle utilization, and maintenance costs.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as operations, logistics, and procurement, to ensure alignment of fleet management activities with overall business objectives.
- Participate in budget planning and cost control efforts related to fleet operations, including equipment purchases, maintenance expenses, and staffing levels.
Qualifications:
- Experience in fleet management, preferably in a transportation or logistics environment.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and industry best practices related to vehicle maintenance and safety.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team of mechanics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other fleet management software tools.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
