Assistant Controller - Phoenix, AZ

Overview: Nexus HR is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join the dynamic finance team of a rapidly growing technology-enabled healthcare company. About the Job
This position is for one of our valued clients and is located onsite at their corporate office in Arcadia, Phoenix, AZ. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in maintaining accurate accounting records, managing the month-end close, and supporting financial audits. You will assist the Controller with financial reporting, compliance, and the development of accounting policies and procedures. This role involves working collaboratively across departments and providing actionable insights to support strategic decision-making. Ideal candidates will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of GAAP principles, and the ability to effectively communicate with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the accounting team that prepares financial reports for specific divisions (AR, AP, finance).
Review of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and intercompany balances for additional entries and/or research.
Review of monthly financial statements (general ledger, income statements, balance sheets, etc.).
Prepare monthly business reporting, analyze variances, and communicate key takeaways.
Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls.
Create and implement financial models, graphs, reports, and dashboards to assist management in decision-making.
Develop ad hoc financial models and analyses to support strategic and operational initiatives.
Analyze and review financial data, resolve questions or problems, present recommendations, and provide solutions to management.
Assist in the annual budgeting process.
Assist in the annual audit process.
Work collaboratively with all departments and divisions, identifying best practices and process efficiencies.
Other accounting tasks or analyses as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, Master's Degree, or CPA preferred.
5 years relevant Accounting and Finance experience.
Demonstrates financial/operational analysis experience, including the development of key performance metrics and indicators.
Experience working with staff across multiple locations and remote work sites.
Excellent Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills. Knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus.
Strong results orientation and bias for action, including a high degree of initiative in understanding business needs and leading others to meet those needs.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Attention to detail and deadline-driven.
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, with strong executive presence.
Able to work independently in a goal-oriented environment.
Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures.
Healthcare experience and/or knowledge of medical terminology and revenue cycle management is a plus.
Able to work on-site at our corporate office in Arcadia, Phoenix, AZ.
