Position Summary

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, structured, and trauma-informed care to residents within a residential treatment center. Under the administrative direction of the MHT Manager and the clinical supervision of licensed clinical staff, the Mental Health Technician supports therapeutic programming, ensures resident safety, and fosters a healing environment that promotes recovery, personal growth, and the emotional, behavioral, and social development of residents.

  • Service

oConsistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of Nexus Health Systems

oCollaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

  • Clinical Excellence

oProvides direct supervision and care to residents, ensuring their safety, comfort, and engagement in therapeutic activities.

oManages and ensures daily schedule for residents is followed as well as adequate supervision

oAssists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, and meal support, promoting independence and dignity.

oTransports residents to and from appointments, clinics, laboratories, and/or treatments

oImplements and reinforces individualized treatment plans, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support residents' goals.

oFacilitates milieu activities, such as community meetings, recreational events, and skill-building groups, tailored to the residents' needs.

oResponds promptly and effectively to crisis situations, employing de-escalation techniques and interventions as trained.

oDemonstrates professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions, serving as a role model for residents and peers.

oMaintains accurate and timely documentation of resident behaviors, interventions, and progress notes in accordance with facility policies.

oParticipates actively in team meetings, offering insights and observations to inform care strategies.

oAdheres to established protocols and procedures, ensuring consistency and quality in service delivery.

  • Patient Experience and Advocacy

oFosters a therapeutic environment that respects residents' rights, cultural backgrounds, and individual preferences.

oAdvocates for residents' needs and concerns, facilitating communication between residents and the treatment team.

oEncourages resident participation in treatment planning and decision-making processes, promoting empowerment and self-efficacy.

oSupports residents in developing coping strategies, social skills, and resilience through positive reinforcement and guidance.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance

oEnsures all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

oParticipates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

oPromotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.

oParticipates in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and training sessions to enhance service delivery and outcomes.

oMonitors and reports any incidents, safety hazards, or policy violations promptly, contributing to a culture of accountability.

  • Professional Growth and Continuing Education

oCompletes annual education requirements.

oMaintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.

oMaintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.

oParticipates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.

oEngages in ongoing professional development and in-service training relevant to mental health care.

oStays informed about current best practices, treatment modalities, and emerging trends in behavioral health.

oSeeks feedback and supervision to enhance skills, address challenges, and support career advancement.

oMaintains required certifications and licensures, ensuring compliance with professional standards.

  • Finance

oPromotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.

oUtilizes resources efficiently, minimizing waste and contributing to cost-effective operations.

oDocuments services accurately to support billing processes and reimbursement procedures.

oParticipates in inventory management, ensuring the availability and proper use of supplies and equipment.

oAssists in identifying opportunities for financial savings without compromising quality of care.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • AA/BA/BS Psychology, Education, or related social service field (preferred)

Experience

  • One (1) year of experience in a behavioral health, residential, human services field, or at least 2 years of college education. (required)
  • Experience in residential care or mental health treatment (preferred)

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Proficiency in the use of de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in electronic health records (EHRs) systems. Preferred experience with Meditech and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of healthcare terminology

Licensure/Certification

  • First Aid and CPR
  • De-escalation training within 30 days after hire.
  • Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility or obtain it within thirty (30) days of hire.
