Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to children and adolescents with autism, developmental disabilities, and behavioral health needs. The RN works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, consistent, and compassionate care while maintaining the structured environment required for this patient population.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, patience, and the ability to work with patients who may have behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with physician orders and individualized care plans
- Administer medications, treatments, and medical interventions safely and accurately
- Monitor patient health status, behavior, and emotional presentation
- Support behavioral interventions and structured treatment plans
- Respond to behavioral escalations using approved de-escalation techniques
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, behavioral specialists, and interdisciplinary team members
- Educate families on treatment plans, medications, and behavioral strategies
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
- Follow Nexus policies, HIPAA standards, and regulatory requirements
- Support patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities
- Promote a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for all patients
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS and PALS required within 45 days of hire
- De-escalation training required within 30 days of hire
- Associate Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred
- New graduates are welcome to apply
- Experience with pediatric, behavioral health, developmental disabilities, or inpatient care preferred
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
