Position Summary
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides compassionate, hands-on care to children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities. Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and reporting to the Director of Nursing (DON), the LVN assists with medication administration, supports behavioral interventions, and helps maintain the structured environment essential for patient safety and progress.
This role requires patience, consistency, and the ability to work with patients who may have behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients with autism and developmental disabilities
- Administer medications and document responses according to physician orders and facility standards
- Support behavioral interventions and individualized treatment plans
- Participate in daily routines, therapeutic programming, and educational activities
- Observe and document patient behavior, participation, and physical condition in the EHR
- Respond to patient crises using approved de-escalation techniques
- Communicate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members
- Maintain a safe, structured, and trauma-informed care environment
- Support collaboration between nursing, therapy, and education teams
- Promote consistency, safety, and positive patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Current Texas LVN license required
- CPR / BLS certification required
- De-escalation training required within 30 days of hire
- Experience in pediatric behavioral health, autism, or IDD settings preferred
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
- Comfort working in a structured behavioral environment
