Position Summary
The Behavioral Crisis Technician plays a key role in maintaining a safe inpatient environment for pediatric patients and staff. This position works closely with nurses, therapists, and other clinical team members to monitor patient behavior, support behavioral management strategies, and respond to behavioral escalations or safety concerns.
Behavioral Crisis Technicians assist the clinical team during behavioral emergencies and help maintain a structured therapeutic environment that promotes patient stabilization and safety.
This role requires individuals who are able to remain calm under pressure, respond quickly in crisis situations, and work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Candidates with experience in behavioral health, emergency medical services, emergency departments, military service, public safety, or crisis response environments are encouraged to apply.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Behavioral Monitoring & Safety Support
- Maintain a visible safety presence on assigned patient units.
- Monitor patient behavior and identify early signs of escalation.
- Assist nursing and clinical staff with behavioral interventions and safety measures.
- Support the clinical team in maintaining a structured therapeutic environment.
- Participate in behavioral response calls when patient safety concerns arise.
Crisis Response
- Respond promptly to behavioral emergencies.
- Assist with approved behavioral management and de-escalation techniques.
- Support the clinical team during high-risk patient situations.
- Assist with patient redirection, mobility, and safety interventions when clinically indicated and properly trained.
Patient Supervision
- Provide direct patient observation when assigned.
- Assist patients with movement and transitions throughout the unit as directed by clinical staff.
- Maintain awareness of environmental safety risks and report concerns promptly.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate observations related to patient behavior and safety concerns to clinical staff.
- Support interdisciplinary teams in maintaining safe patient care operations.

Physical Requirements
This role works in a pediatric inpatient behavioral healthcare environment where staff must be prepared to respond to behavioral emergencies.
Employees must be able to:
- Remain active and mobile throughout the shift
- Respond quickly to behavioral or safety incidents
- Assist with patient mobility and redirection
- Safely participate in behavioral safety interventions when required and trained
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds when necessary
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Education / Certifications
One or more of the following is preferred:
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
- Paramedic certification
- Behavioral Health Technician experience
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Security or safety response training
- Associate degree in healthcare, psychology, or related field
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly valued:
- Inpatient behavioral health or psychiatric settings
- Emergency medical services
- Emergency department technician roles
- Pediatric or adolescent healthcare settings
- Crisis response or safety-related roles
- Military or first responder experience
