SUPERVISOR: Detox Nurse Manager
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: PRN
SHIFT: 31 or Less Hours Per Week


POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) assist with supervising all medication room services.  They supervise detoxification of clients admitted to this level of care.  They coordinate medical and psychiatric services for residential clients and Detox clients. A LVN manages and implement infection control policies and processes. They are responsible for accurate, effective, and efficient medication room processes. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conducts nursing assessment and documents assessment of all detox clients. 

  • Confers with medical staff and discusses detox clients’ evaluations as warranted.  

  • Conducts vitals and the CIWA and COWS evaluations with detox clients. 

  • Ensures client medical and behavioral health care needs are addressed through the coordination of services with Parkland’s Medical Van, agency Medical Providers, and all outside providers. 

  • Provides supervision of medication to clients according to guidelines established by licensing/regulatory/agency standards and policies and procedures. 

  • Assures clients adhere to medication schedule. 

  • Records significant events/concerns as related to client medical issues. 

  • Manages crisis situations; notify Program Director, Clinical Director, and Medical Director as necessary.   

  • Completes appropriate documentation of any significant events, Health assessments, and Screenings for Detox clients. 

  • Attends program treatment team meetings, as required. 

  • Attends monthly All Staff meeting. 

  • Provides emergency direction as appropriate. 

  • Conducts health education and medication management groups with clients, as assigned.  

  • Assures various forms are updated and supplied for client’s use.  

  • Provides information to clients related to medical resources, i.e. Parkland, Stewpot, etc. 

  • Assists clients with moderate health care problems, e.g. blood-pressure checks, etc. 

  • Arranges all client medical appointments. 

  • Interfaces with Agency Medical Providers to provide appropriate information and documentation, as necessary. 

  • Maintains accurate client Electronic Medication Administration Records (EMAR). 

  • Informs manager of medication supplies needed. 

  • Completes medication room audits and medication administration record audits. 

  • Conducts health education and medication management education and training as assigned.  

  • Complies with all licensing and regulatory standards for medication storage, disposal, counting, reconciliation, etc. 

  • Orders and replaces supplies as needed. 

  • Ensure services delivered as in line with the Nexus Mission and Values. 

  • Other Duties May Be Assigned.

  • Understanding of state licensure standards and Joint Commission standards and ability to provide services in accordance with the standards.   

  • Ability to gather and document client health histories and current medical symptoms. 

  • Observing and documenting administration of medications to Detox clients. 

  • Recording significant events related to clients’ medical issues. 

  • Managing medical crisis and providing direction to staff according to a crisis management model. 

  • Maintaining positive working relationships with local vendors such as the pharmacy and lab. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities to interact effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders. 

  • Proficiency with Welligent, CMBHS, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant administrative tools.   

  • Understanding of teleconferencing and virtual meeting platforms. 

  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work. 

  • Understanding of and adherence to HIPAA Compliance, and Employee & Client Confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Associate’s degree in nursing or related field and license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. 

  • Two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATION: 

  • Licensed as Licensed Vocational Nurse and all training required by agency. 

  • Certification as CPR and First Aid instructor preferred. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.   

  • Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and team members in one-on-one and small group situations. 

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.   

  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. 

REASONING ABILITY: 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  

  • Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
