SHIFT: 40 Hours Per Week


SUMMARY:

The Community Engagement Manager is an essential member of the Philanthropy Team. The CEM oversees Nexus’s membership programs, including Pathways to Possibilities, the Nexus Auxiliary, and the Volunteer Program. The CEM serves as the primary relationship manager for individual and group volunteers, creating a pipeline of opportunities to convert volunteers to financial contributors to the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Membership

  • Manage and oversee all Nexus membership programs, including Pathways to Possibilities sustaining giving program and the Nexus Auxiliary.
  • Serve as the relationship manager for Pathways to Possibilities members, cultivating and soliciting recurring gifts and monthly commitments, and identifying and acquiring new members.
  • Lead donor outreach and fundraising activity to meet revenue goals for   annual Pathways reception; work closely with Special Events Manager on all event logistics.
  • Produce annual Auxiliary events, including Child Development Center holiday celebrations, Auxiliary staff appreciation, and an Auxiliary acquisition event.
  • Send timely renewal notifications, supporting retention and ongoing engagement.
  • Engage all members regularly, inviting them to campus tours, events, and other opportunities for involvement.

Volunteer  

  • Oversee all volunteer engagement across campus programs and departments.
  • Collaborate with Nexus staff and partner agencies to design meaningful volunteer opportunities that align with partner interests while meeting Nexus’s programmatic needs.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for Voly, managing volunteer onboarding, orientation, and the platform where volunteers register for opportunities.
  • Lead recruitment, screening, and placement of volunteers, including background checks and drug screening for recurring volunteers.
  • Manage volunteer logistics, including scheduling and activity tracking, working closely with the Facilities team.
  • Monitor and record hours in Voly and maintain accurate KPI reporting for Nexus.
  • Serve as the primary liaison and point of contact for individual and group volunteers, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Work with the Special Events Manager and the Philanthropy team to ensure volunteer support for philanthropy events, assign responsibilities, and supervise volunteers during events.
  • Lead planning for the annual volunteer appreciation event.
  • Cultivate and maintain community partnerships.
  • Convert volunteers into supporters, inviting them to join the Pathways to Possibilities sustaining giving program.
  • Promote Nexus and its membership and volunteer programs through volunteer fairs, hosting tours, and other outreach channels.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date contact information and detailed constituent notes in Raiser’s Edge, and track volunteer participation in the Volunteer module
  • Support the Philanthropy team and perform other duties as needed.
  • Takes responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Philanthropy.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communications skills.

  • Collaborative team member with the ability to pivot quickly when plans or needs change.
  • Ability to interact well with high-net worth individuals, corporate and foundation executives, and civic and community leaders.
  • Ability to work with a broad variety of personalities and have excellent customer services skills in dealing with volunteers and donors.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and managing volunteers including having worked directly with board members, committees and volunteer councils.
  • Understanding of corporate membership and sponsorship, and special event philanthropy programs.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously, remain adaptable, understand, define organizational, and project priorities in the context of multiple expectations.
  • Demonstrated positive, achievement-oriented attitude and proactive work ethic.
  • A knowledge of community health services relating to alcohol and substance abuse recovery and an ability to empathize with challenges faced by Nexus’s clients.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

The Community Engagement Manager must a skilled professional with excellent customer service and organizational skills. history of working in non-profit and mission-driven organizations or for-profit organizations with active community relations/corporate affairs programs is preferred but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience with volunteer management or coordination required.
  • Proven experience working with non-profits or other philanthropic organizations
  • Proven experience working with boards of directors’ members, donors and volunteers.
  • Experience representing organizations publicly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizations skills and unassailable professionalism.

QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF WORK:

Ability to perform assigned duties and responsibilities with neatness, accuracy and a degree of excellence in a timely manner. Ability to maintain records in an organized fashion.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The employee must have extensive computer and software skills, including Microsoft Office Suite applications and knowledge of donor databases. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

None required A willingness and ability to continue professional development by participating in conferences, workshops, etc. is essential.

The Philanthropy & Communications Department is a fast-paced, multi-tasking, multi-priorities environment committed to fostering teamwork. It is housed in a separate building from most program staff and requires moving between sites as well as to off-campus locations.
