Primary Responsibilities
Organization-Wide Nursing Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership and clinical oversight for nursing services across all Nexus Family Healing agencies with nursing staff.
- Establish consistent, effective nursing practices aligned with evidence-based standards, ethical guidelines, and organizational expectations.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to executive leadership and agency leaders on nursing practice, trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging clinical issues.
- Provide consultation and clinical guidance to agency leadership and nursing teams to support sound decision making, risk mitigation, and client safety.
- Promote high quality, evidence-based nursing care aligned with Nexus Family Healing’s mission, values, and commitment to positive client outcomes.
- Foster a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across nursing services organization-wide.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for the Electronic Medical Record System (EMR), providing guidance, support, and training to agencies and nursing staff.
- Develop, implement, and maintain system wide nursing policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines that support safe, effective, and consistent nursing practice.
- Ensure nursing policies reflect evidence-based standards and professional practice guidelines while allowing for agency specific regulatory requirements.
- Identify and advance opportunities to standardize nursing practices, documentation, tools, and workflows to reduce variation and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with agency leadership and nursing teams to assess current practices and support appropriate standardization.
- Ensure nursing policies, procedures, and documentation remain current, accurate, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
- Support agencies with education, implementation, and ongoing adherence to standardized nursing practices.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory and accreditation requirements impacting nursing services across all jurisdictions of operation.
- Assess regulatory changes and provide guidance to agency leadership to support timely and compliant implementation.
- Serve as a resource to agencies on nursing scope of practice, licensure, documentation, and regulatory expectations.
- Partner with Quality & Outcomes and Operations to identify, assess, and address nursing related risk and compliance issues.
- Participate in incident reviews, investigations, and root cause analyses as needed and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist agencies in preparation for audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and regulatory monitoring visits, including corrective action planning and follow up.
- Act as a key consultant to agency leadership, nursing leadership, and clinical teams on nursing standards, practice expectations, and system wide initiatives.
- Foster collaborative relationships across agencies to promote alignment, transparency, and shared accountability.
- Partner with Human Resources to maintain consistent nursing role expectations, job descriptions, competencies, and scopes of practice.
- Support consistency in nursing onboarding, orientation, and training standards across agencies.
- Provide input into nursing workforce planning, recruitment, retention, role design, and long-term organizational needs.
- Support initiatives that strengthen nurse engagement, retention, and professional development.
- Define and monitor organization level nursing quality indicators to evaluate safety, effectiveness, and consistency of nursing services.
- Collaborate with Quality and Clinical teams to align nursing metrics with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Analyze nursing related data, trends, and outcomes to identify strengths, opportunities, and emerging risks.
- Share insights and recommendations with executive and agency leadership to support informed decision making.
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives related to nursing practice and care delivery.
- Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and data informed practice within nursing services.
- Define and maintain core nursing competencies, training requirements, and education standards applicable across agencies.
- Ensure competencies and training expectations align with regulatory, accreditation, and evidence-based practice standards.
- Support ongoing education and professional development by identifying training needs, best practices, and skill building opportunities.
- Collaborate with agency leadership, Clinical, and Human Resources teams to facilitate access to education and professional growth.
- Promote professional standards, ethical practice, continuous learning, and clinical excellence across nursing services.
Required Education and Licensure:
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in at least one state where Nexus operates
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive nursing experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in leadership, clinical oversight, or system-level roles
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health, mental health, residential treatment, or human services
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements impacting nursing care
- Experience with accreditation bodies and regulatory inspections
- Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements
- Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience supporting nursing services across multiple locations or agencies preferred
- Travel up to 50 percent of the time required via air and ground transportation
