NextStep Recruiting has partnered with a financial services organization in the insurance sector to identify a Director of Investment Accounting to lead a team responsible for financial reporting and oversight of a large investment portfolio. This leadership role will support both operational reporting requirements and broader finance transformation initiatives. This position is ideal for an accounting leader who can balance detailed review responsibilities with strategic insight into portfolio performance and reporting processes. The Director will partner closely with finance leadership, auditors, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate GAAP and statutory reporting while driving process improvements and automation.
Required:
- 7–10 years of experience in investment accounting, financial reporting, or related accounting functions
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or statutory accounting principles
- Experience working within an insurance or other regulated financial services environment
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and support month-end, quarter-end, and annual reporting cycles
- Experience leading or mentoring accounting staff
Preferred:
- CPA or equivalent professional certification
- Experience supporting portfolios with diverse asset classes, including alternative investments or private credit
- Background working with distributed or multi-site teams
- Experience driving process improvements or automation initiatives
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
