What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer position at NextPlay Jobs?
Electrical Engineer – Power Systems & Vehicle Integration
Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, integration, and deployment of mobile and vehicle-based electrical systems. This role is hands-on and systems-focused, centered on power distribution, wiring schematics, batteries, inverters, and system-level integration rather than component- or PCB-heavy design. The ideal candidate is interested in building a long-term career working on real, fielded hardware and enjoys seeing designs move from concept through build, test, and production.
This position works closely with mechanical engineers, technicians, and manufacturing teams to deliver reliable, serviceable electrical systems used in operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain system-level electrical schematics for vehicle and mobile platforms
- Develop and integrate 12 VDC power systems, including batteries, inverters, chargers, fuses, relays, and power distribution components
- Own wiring architectures, harness definitions, and system-level BOMs
- Support electrical system integration into mechanically packaged enclosures and vehicle platforms
- Troubleshoot electrical issues during prototype builds, testing, and production
- Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and assembly teams to ensure designs are buildable and serviceable
- Improve existing electrical systems by identifying reliability, manufacturability, or usability issues
- Support testing, validation, and documentation of electrical systems
- Participate in system-level reviews and contribute to defining integration best practices
Required Experience & Skills
- Experience working with power systems (12 VDC preferred) rather than purely component- or PCB-level design
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and power distribution
- Experience integrating batteries, inverters, power conditioning, and control interfaces
- Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical (or similar schematic tools)
- Comfort working in hands-on environments (lab, shop, or manufacturing floor)
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems using standard test equipment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with vehicle, mobile, or ruggedized systems
- Exposure to touchscreen or HMI-controlled systems
- Mechanical packaging awareness (working alongside mechanical designers)
- Experience supporting systems through production and field deployment
- Background in system integration or product engineering environments
What This Role Is (and Is Not)
This role is:
- Systems- and power-focused
- Hands-on and integration-heavy
- Oriented toward long-term ownership and growth
This role is not:
- Pure PCB or embedded firmware development
- Research-only or academic
- A short-term stepping stone role
