Lab Billing Specialist – Toxicology & PCR Billing

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lab Billing Specialist to join our growing laboratory team in Plano, Texas. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical laboratory billing, specifically toxicology and PCR testing, and possess a thorough understanding of insurance claims processing, reimbursement methodologies, and laboratory compliance requirements.
This position requires an individual who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing high billing volumes while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of our Plano laboratory and be available for in-office work.
Responsibilities
- Process and submit laboratory claims for toxicology and PCR testing services.
- Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and billing information.
- Review claims for accuracy and compliance prior to submission.
- Follow up on denied, rejected, or unpaid claims and initiate appeals when appropriate.
- Investigate billing discrepancies and resolve claim issues with payers, providers, and patients.
- Monitor accounts receivable and work aging reports to maximize collections.
- Maintain current knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and payer-specific billing guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and laboratory billing regulations.
- Work closely with laboratory operations, providers, and management to resolve billing concerns.
- Generate billing reports and assist with revenue cycle performance analysis.
- Document all billing activities and maintain accurate records within billing systems.
QualificationsRequired:
- Minimum of 2 years of laboratory billing experience.
- Demonstrated experience with toxicology billing and PCR/molecular diagnostic testing billing.
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding, and payer reimbursement practices.
- Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance carriers.
- Proficiency with billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and follow-up abilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Must be located within commuting distance of Plano, TX.
Preferred:
- Experience with reference laboratories or independent clinical laboratories.
- Familiarity with laboratory compliance requirements and payer audits.
- Knowledge of revenue cycle management and accounts receivable processes.
