Technical Electrical Engineer — Contract

This is a contract opportunity based in New Carlisle/South Bend, Indiana, with candidates located anywhere in the U.S. considered if they are highly willing to travel to client projects on a long-term basis.

Client is seeking a Technical Electrical Engineer to support major construction and commissioning projects in New Carlisle/South Bend, Indiana, with flexibility for candidates located anywhere in the U.S. who are highly willing to travel long-term to client project sites. This contract opportunity will support electrical construction, commissioning, quality control, equipment startup, and field engineering activities across complex industrial projects.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who wants to be deeply involved in the full project lifecycle—from design and preconstruction through construction, equipment startup, commissioning, and turnover. You’ll serve as a technical resource for project teams, subcontractors, owners, and A/E partners while solving challenging field problems and helping implement efficient construction methods. The role offers significant exposure to advanced industrial construction, new technologies, constructability, commissioning, and project execution, making it an excellent fit for someone looking to expand their technical and leadership capabilities while working on high-profile client projects.

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Required Skills & Experience

• 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience
• Minimum 8 years of extensive electrical and/or mechanical construction experience
• Thorough knowledge of electrical construction technology, equipment, materials, methods, and field practices
• Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, contract documents, specifications, and industry standards
• Experience supporting construction, commissioning, equipment startup, and turnover
• Experience with quality control planning and inspection processes
• Ability to monitor electrical/mechanical subcontractors for schedule, quality, safety, and contract compliance
• Strong field troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Computer proficiency, including web-based project management systems
• Valid driver's license
• Willingness and ability to travel to client project sites on a long-term basis

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience with equipment startup and commissioning processes, including V-Start/KAN-BAN
• Experience working with owners, Architect/Engineer teams, general contractors, and subcontractors
• Experience performing constructability reviews and evaluating construction methods
• Knowledge of specialty electrical equipment and industrial construction systems
• Experience developing field construction procedures, work instructions, and controlling documents
• Experience reviewing A/E specifications, bid inquiries, material requirements, and equipment submittals
• Experience providing technical input to estimating, project controls, and project management teams
• Knowledge of emerging electrical construction technologies, materials, equipment, and installation methods
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple technical priorities in a fast-paced field environment

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support during design and preconstruction activities.
• Support owners and Architect/Engineer teams with electrical engineering and constructability input.
• Manage equipment startup, commissioning, and turnover activities using V-Start/KAN-BAN processes.
• Assist with project QC planning, inspections, documentation, and compliance.
• Monitor electrical and mechanical subcontractor field activities for schedule and conformance with contract documents.
• Troubleshoot field construction issues and provide technical solutions to project personnel.
• Interpret applicable electrical codes, specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
• Develop and maintain construction work instructions, field guidelines, and mandatory work-control documents.
• Review A/E specifications and bid inquiries to verify technical and code requirements.
• Participate in constructability reviews and recommend cost-effective, schedule-efficient construction methods.
• Research and recommend improved construction processes, technologies, equipment, materials, and installation techniques.
• Provide technical input to estimating, project controls, project management, and other company functions.
• Maintain accurate technical, quality, commissioning, and turnover documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
