Mechanical Engineer I (Entry Level)
Location: Alaska – preferably Anchorage, Wasilla, or Eagle River
Duration: 12-month contract
No C2C candidates, only w2
We are seeking a Facilities Engineer I to join our engineering organization in an entry-level capacity. This role supports senior engineering staff by performing foundational engineering calculations, design activities, and implementation tasks. The position requires close supervision, adherence to established engineering standards, and a strong willingness to learn and grow within the facilities engineering discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Documentation (80%)
- Support senior engineers in preparing detailed engineering designs, material lists, installation packages, and test & maintenance procedures
- Assist in the design and specification of installation methods, materials, and layouts for:
- Cable racks and cable tray runways
- Lighting systems and floor plans
- Rack layouts and grounding systems
- HVAC systems
- Backup batteries, generators, UPS, inverters
- AC and DC power systems and distribution
- Support facilities across telecommunications environments including Central Offices, Internet, Microwave, Cellular, Satellite, Transport, LAN/WAN, Switching, and customer premise facilities
- Ensure all work complies with IEEE standards, industry regulations, and established engineering practices
Installation & Field Support (20%)
- Assist with onsite and remote installation support
- Coordinate materials, supplies, and equipment ordering
- Support installation activities under guidance of senior engineers
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
- Certification: EIT preferred (PE not required)
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience or related background
- Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and design tasks
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to power systems, HVAC, or telecommunications environments
- Familiarity with telecom facilities or infrastructure projects
- Relevant telecom or engineering certifications
