Traveling Low-Voltage Installation Technician
Location: Greensboro, NC
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Travel: Approximately 85%, Monday through Friday
Position Overview
NextGen is hiring two Traveling Low-Voltage Installation Technicians near Greensboro, NC.
This position supports telecommunications installation projects at prisons, jails, and other secure correctional facilities. Technicians will travel Monday through Friday and return home for weekends.
The role is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to convert to full-time employment.
Responsibilities
- Install Cat6 cabling, phone systems, racks, switches, wireless access points, conduit, wire mold, and related equipment
- Pull, route, terminate, label, and test structured cabling
- Complete equipment installations at new and existing customer locations
- Perform basic troubleshooting and break-fix work on telecom and network equipment
- Respond to and update service tickets
- Assist with site surveys and facility walkthroughs
- Review installation documents, build orders, and basic architectural drawings
- Document completed work, equipment issues, project changes, and installation status
- Communicate with supervisors, team members, customers, and facility personnel
- Follow company safety procedures and all correctional-facility security requirements
- Use ladders, scissor lifts, drills, drivers, and other installation tools safely
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of telecom installation, structured cabling, low-voltage, cable installation, or related field experience
- Experience installing or supporting Cat6 cabling and structured cabling systems
- Experience with phone systems, racks, switches, access points, or related network equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot basic telecom or network equipment issues
- Ability to use drills, drivers, ladders, scissor lifts, and installation tools
- Ability to read basic installation documents and architectural drawings
- Strong communication, documentation, and project coordination skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable personal vehicle for use during the contract period
- Ability to travel approximately 85%, including overnight stays
- Must live within commuting distance of Greensboro, NC
- Must be comfortable working inside prisons, jails, and other secure correctional facilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working inside correctional, government, or other secure facilities
- Experience with fiber, coaxial cabling, access control, CCTV, or telecom field service
- Experience using ticketing systems
- Technical training in telecommunications, networking, or low-voltage installation
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 85 pounds
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, and work from ladders or lifts
- Ability to drive for extended periods
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in active installation environments
Travel and Reimbursement
- Monday through Friday travel with weekends at home
- Mileage reimbursement for use of a personal vehicle during the contract period
- Meal per diem
- Full hotel reimbursement for overnight travel
