Data Center Construction Manager

Position Overview We’re seeking an experienced Assistant Construction Project Manager to oversee data center construction projects carried out by colocation providers. This key role ensures projects meet ambitious timelines, strict quality expectations, and design requirements.

Must Have Skills

• Experience with ground up construction for data centers, wireless cell tower sites, or manufacturing facilities
• Skilled in multi-department and multi-vendor coordination and project management in a construction environment
• Familiar with the requirements of construction focusing on system interoperability

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the base building and MEP infrastructure phases of data center construction.
• Oversee end-to-end project delivery, ensuring completion on time, within budget, and to top quality standards.
• Maintain detailed project schedules and actively coordinate with colocation partners on milestones.
• Independently evaluate project risks and communicate potential impacts to internal teams.
• Integrate tenant fit outs with base building throughout design, construction, and commissioning.
• Champion quality control to ensure construction meets all specifications and industry benchmarks.
• Collaborate with design teams to align construction activities with approved plans.
• Serve as the main contact for all stakeholders, fostering clear and timely communication.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies for project success.
• Ensure all activities comply with applicable regulations and industry standards.
• Contribute feedback and evaluations for ongoing improvement of colocation providers.
• Make regular site visits to uphold schedule, quality, and coordination.

What You’ll Need

• Knowledge of base building data center construction, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing.
• Hands-on experience with startup, commissioning, and large-scale project management.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
• Expertise in strategic planning and establishing program-level requirements.
• Thorough understanding of data center design, operation, and sustainability best practices.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing large teams and delivering results under pressure.
• Proven track record in budget management and cost optimization.
• Skilled at vendor management including contract negotiation and supplier oversight.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and compliance standards.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging stakeholders and providing clear updates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 5 years’ experience in construction project management, focused on data centers or colocation infrastructure (for a contractor, provider, or hyperscaler)
• Strong background in large-scale construction, quality control, and design collaboration
• Proven leadership and problem-solving abilities
• Experience working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
