What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bookkeeper position at NextAxiom?
We are seeking a contract Bookkeeper who can dedicate at least twenty hours per week and work on-site in our San Francisco office. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the month-end close, and ensuring day-to-day accounting operations run smoothly. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger with accurate and timely entries
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Prepare and send customer invoices; track collections
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and expense accounts
- Record payroll entries and coordinate with external payroll providers
- Track software-related expenses, subscriptions, and vendor contracts
- Assist with monthly close, including accruals and reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Support annual audit, tax filings, and coordination with external accountants
- Maintain organized financial documentation and records
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting best practices
Required Qualifications
- 2–4 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar)
- Strong understanding of AP/AR, reconciliations, and basic GAAP principles
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in an in-office environment
- Professional discretion in handling confidential financial data
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a software, SaaS, or technology company
- Familiarity with SaaS revenue recognition concepts (a plus)
- Experience supporting the month-end close in a growth-stage company
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Work Environment
- In-office role based in San Francisco

Salary : $60,000 - $90,000
