What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Maintenance Technician / Millwright position at Next Step Recruitment?
Build something stable. Keep it running. Make an impact.
At AvenEx, we don’t just keep machines running — we build a workplace where experience, skill, and safety are valued above all. We’re looking for a seasoned Plant Maintenance Technician/Millwright who wants a stable, hands-on role with the autonomy to run maintenance their way, and the trust to make the call when it matters.
This role is central to the success of our extrusion coating line. When you’re doing your job well, production runs smoothly, downtime is minimized, and the whole operation is safer and more efficient. You’ll be the go-to person for preventative maintenance, breakdown repair, and direct support on the production floor.
What You’ll Do
-
Own the maintenance program — from preventative checks to emergency repairs.
-
Keep the plant running by troubleshooting issues, swapping out parts, and making repairs hands-on.
-
Support production directly, whether that’s operating the coating line, lending a hand during a run, or jumping on the forklift.
-
Organize the tool crib and parts inventory so the team always has what they need.
-
Document and communicate clearly so handoffs are smooth and the whole team stays safe.
-
Apply your full skillset — machining, welding, pneumatics, rigging, bearings, gearboxes, motors, compressors, and more.
What’s In It For You
-
Great pay for great skill — $35–$37.50/hr to start, with room for increases and performance bonuses.
-
Mostly day-shift work — occasional off-hours or weekend shutdowns, but 90% of the time you’ll be on a predictable schedule.
-
Autonomy and respect — you’ll be the lead maintenance expert on-site, trusted to make decisions and run your program.
-
Stability — steady work in a full-time role with a company that values long-term contributors.
-
Lifestyle — live and work in a community that offers affordability, balance, and room to breathe.
What You Bring
-
A trades certificate in Millwright (or equivalent) and 10 years working with rotating equipment, preferably in web handling or extrusion.
-
Or: 15 years of directly relevant experience in place of formal trade school.
-
A reputation for reliability, punctuality, and doing the job right.
-
Strong English communication skills — written and spoken — for documentation, safety, and shift coordination.
-
Hands-on proficiency with maintenance tools, machining, welding, pneumatics, and preventive systems.
What Success Looks Like
In your first year, you’ll have:
-
Zero accidents, zero unplanned downtime.
-
A preventative maintenance system that keeps the plant humming.
-
A tool crib and parts inventory that’s easy to use and always ready.
-
A team that trusts you to keep things safe, organized, and efficient.
