What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Manager (Modern IT & Security) position at Next Perimeter?
About Next Perimeter
Next Perimeter unifies modern IT and cybersecurity into a single, blueprinted platform built around identity, zero trust, and operational excellence. We support U.S.-based, security-conscious organizations that have outgrown DIY IT and need a structured, cloud-first system to run their business.
Role Summary
The Account Manager is responsible for the long-term health, alignment, and renewal readiness of assigned clients. You represent the client's organization (not individual users) and ensure their technology strategy aligns with business outcomes, security posture, and Next Perimeter's blueprinted platform.
You do not design technical solutions or speak for engineering. Instead, you partner closely with our Solutions Architect ("SA") and delivery teams to maintain clarity, protect outcomes, and guide clients through modernization, lifecycle planning, and executive alignment.
Your core mission is simple: Maintain executive alignment, protect outcomes, and ensure predictable, no-surprise renewals.
What You'll Own
Executive Alignment & Strategy
- Build and maintain trust with client executives, directors, and operational leaders.
- Ensure every client has a clearly documented and SA-validated executive priority each quarter.
- Guide clients through modernization, lifecycle planning, and security posture improvements.
- Run structured QBRs and strategic business reviews.
Client Health & Renewal Stability
- Monitor early indicators of churn risk and diagnose whether it's business, operational, or relational.
- Maintain consistent communication cadence with persistence and purpose.
- Reframe urgency, delays, or conflicts around outcomes, risk, and business impact.
- Ensure renewals occur without surprises.
Communication & Expectation Setting
- Communicate with clarity, calmness, and outcome-first framing.
- Redirect emotion toward strategic conversations.
- Ensure stakeholders understand the "why" behind decisions - not just the "what."
- Re-center bypassed communication back through the proper channel with professionalism.
Modernization & Collaboration
- Partner with the SA on modernization validation and technical feasibility.
- Bring the right experts into conversations and stay involved end-to-end.
- Ensure clients stay aligned to blueprint standards and security-by-default principles.
- Never speak for engineering or commit to technical timelines without validation.
Data & Reporting
- Validate all data before presenting it externally.
- Turn metrics into a clear story of progress, risk, and next steps.
Documentation & Record-Keeping
- Document context, decisions, and rationale for future humans - not yourself.
- Ensure executive priorities, alignment history, and modernization commitments are always current.
What Success Looks Like
You will succeed in this role if:
- Executives trust you and stay aligned to the roadmap.
- Renewal risk is surfaced early, accurately diagnosed, and addressed proactively.
- QBRs are strategic, outcome-focused, and grounded in validated data.
- You protect engineering and SA from overcommitment or misalignment.
- Blueprint standards are maintained without client drift.
- Clients view you as a business partner, not a ticket router.
- Your accounts renew predictably with no surprises.
Required Experience & Skills
Must-Have Competencies
- Strong executive communication and expectation-setting
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business value
- Outcome-first thinking and systems awareness
- High emotional regulation in tense conversations
- Strong boundary discipline (knows when to defer to SA/engineering)
- Context-seeking behavior (clarifies before committing)
- Skilled in multi-stakeholder dynamics and authority mapping
- Ability to document clearly and concisely
Experience
- 3 years in Account Management, Client Success, TAM, or similar roles
- Experience working with IT, SaaS, security, or engineering teams
- Exposure to cloud-first ecosystems (Microsoft 365, identity, zero trust concepts)
- Experience supporting executive-level stakeholders
What Your Schedule Will Be
