What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Growth & Business Development position at Next Level Mental Health Counseling?
Modality: Hybrid | Westchester (Irvington) Manhattan, NY
Reports to: Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
Direct Report: Client Experience Manager
ABOUT NEXT LEVEL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING
Next Level Mental Health Counseling is one of New York's fastest-growing behavioral health group practices, serving clients both virtually across New York State and in person at our Irvington and Bryant Park offices. With more than 60 clinicians representing a wide range of specialties, our mission is to make high-quality mental healthcare more accessible through exceptional therapist matching and outstanding client experiences.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is the sales leadership role inside the marketing department. You'll own the full pipeline from first inquiry to booked, seated client — and you'll build the referral source network that feeds it. It's a relationship-driven, metrics-accountable role that sits at the intersection of business development, operations, and client experience.
You'll report to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), sit on the extended leadership team, and manage our Client Experience Manager, who owns inbound calls, texts, emails, and direct message inquiries. Your job is to turn that inbound interest — plus outbound and referral-driven opportunity — into booked clients, efficiently, consistently, and at scale.
You'll also serve as the critical feedback loop between what's converting and what marketing is building. The VP of Marketing & Growth depends on you to surface lead source quality, campaign-to-conversion data, and referral partner insights that inform where the marketing budget goes.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Business Development & Referral Source Growth
- Build and execute a referral development strategy targeting physicians, therapists, psychiatrists, EAPs, employer partners, universities, schools, and community organizations across our Westchester and Manhattan markets
- Cultivate and manage an ongoing referral partner network — regular touchpoints, co-branded materials, and a system for tracking partner-sourced client volume
- Represent Next Level MHC externally at networking events, partner meetings, conventions, and community presence opportunities
- Develop and maintain partnership collateral (one-pagers, decks, email sequences) in collaboration with the marketing team
Client Acquisition & Conversion
- Own the full client acquisition cycle end-to-end: from first inquiry (web form, matchmaker quiz, phone, social DM) through consult booked, consult completed, intake paperwork, and first session seated
- Design and optimize follow-up sequences, response-time SLAs, and nurture workflows across every stage of the acquisition cycle — including re-engaging warm contacts and referral source-generated inquiries that don't fit a standard inbound funnel
- Build and track conversion metrics at every stage: inquiry-to-consult rate, consult-to-intake rate, time-to-first-session, and acquisition source attribution
- Bring CRM hygiene, automation, and clear playbooks to a function that needs to be systematic, not reactive
Team Leadership
- Manage and coach the Client Experience Manager, who handles all inbound inquiries and first-touch client communications
- Set standards, scripts, and KPIs for first-response time, tone, and conversion across all inbound channels
- Partner with the VP of Marketing & Growth on how marketing campaigns connect to the sales and nurture funnel
Marketing Feedback Loop
- Report regularly on inquiry source quality, conversion rates at every acquisition stage, and referral partner performance — feeding directly into marketing strategy and budget decisions
- Flag friction points in the client-facing digital funnel (matchmaker quiz, intake forms, booking flow) and bring solutions, not just observations
- Participate in monthly virtual and quarterly in-person leadership meetings in Midtown Manhattan
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
- 5 years in business development, sales management, or growth roles, including experience owning a pipeline and managing a small team
- Track record of building or significantly improving a client acquisition process — from first inquiry through seated client — with measurable results
- Comfort owning numbers: pipeline volume, conversion rates, response times, revenue impact
- Strong systems and process orientation — you think in workflows, dashboards, and SLAs
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable representing the practice externally
Strongly Preferred
- Background spanning sales, business development, and marketing — not just one lane
- Experience with CRM and marketing automation platforms (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar)
- Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or another trust-driven, relationship-heavy service industry
- Familiarity with insurance-based service businesses and referral-driven growth models
- Comfort operating inside a marketing department structure while owning a sales-adjacent function
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Inquiry response times and consult-to-intake conversion rates measurably improve within the first two quarters
- A documented, repeatable referral development and client acquisition system is in place across both markets
- New referral partnerships are active and tracked with clear volume attribution
- The Client Experience Manager has clear standards, coaching, and support
- Marketing and growth functions operate as one connected engine — not two separate departments
- Growth targets are met without compromising client fit or clinical quality
