Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager oversees and administers the organization's payroll functions and procedures, and ensures pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining payroll records, ensuring payroll expenses and taxes are paid correctly, and maintaining knowledge of payroll regulations to ensure payroll procedures are compliant, efficient, and current.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage the timely processing of payroll-related functions including but not limited to processing new hires, terminations, pay changes, tax changes, wage garnishments, deductions, and direct deposit.
• Manage the review, verification, and processing of payroll data.
• Identify and maintain updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
• Respond to all payroll related inquiries including but not limited to payroll deductions and accruals, wage garnishments, child support payments, and employment verifications; resolve employee issues.
• Monitor 401(k) plan withholdings and transfers to plan trustee.
• Oversee preparation of month-end and government reports related to payroll.
• Produce reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and Accounting departments.
• Oversee the processing of manual checks as necessary.
• Administer company travel and entertainment portal and perform audit of expenses.
• Assist with federal and state income tax returns.
• Collaborate with the 401(k)-plan financial statement auditor and related 5500 filing.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns for states where we have nexus.
• Preparing bonus files for month end accrual and monthly/quarterly distribution.
• Assist with workers compensation audit.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent specific experience.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in payroll processing or corporate accounting.
• Advanced knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
• Excellent knowledge of multi-location payroll procedures, taxes, and related laws.
• Advanced experience with payroll software/HRIS.
• Proficiency with Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, mathematical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience with Paylocity a plus.
