Duties
- Assist patients in selecting eyewear by providing knowledgeable guidance on frames, lenses, and lens options based on individual needs and preferences
- Take precise measurements of patients’ eyes, including pupillary distance and frame fit, to ensure optimal visual correction and comfort
- Prepare and process optical prescriptions using medical terminology and laboratory experience to support accurate lens fabrication
- Maintain detailed medical records, including vital signs, medical history, and relevant documentation within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms
- Support ophthalmology staff by managing inventory of optical supplies, ensuring proper aseptic techniques during fittings, and handling laboratory tasks when necessary
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, contact lens usage, and general eye health practices tailored for pediatrics or senior care populations
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain the confidentiality of all medical records
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology to effectively support clinical operations (License is NOT required)
- Experience with optical equipment, laboratory processes, EMR systems (such as NexTech), and medical billing procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly with diverse patient populations including children and senior care clients
- Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills to provide excellent customer service while meeting sales goals
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism
