About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Smalltalk Developer to join our dynamic team. This is a critical role for a seasoned professional who is passionate about building and maintaining robust, scalable enterprise applications. You will play a key part in modernizing legacy systems, integrating with distributed architectures, and mentoring junior developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of complex applications using Smalltalk as the primary technology.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect, implement, and optimize distributed systems and enterprise solutions.
• Integrate Smalltalk applications with mainframe systems and other modern technologies (C, C , Python) as needed.
• Oversee code reviews, enforce best practices, and ensure high standards of software quality and performance.
• Utilize source control and bug tracking tools to manage codebase and resolve issues efficiently.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior and mid-level developers.
• Participate in requirements gathering, solution design, and project planning with stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing systems to ensure reliability and scalability.
• Document technical designs, processes, and procedures for ongoing support and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

• 10 years of hands-on experience in Smalltalk development (VisualWorks, VA Smalltalk, or similar environments).
• Proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale, mission-critical Smalltalk applications.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Proficiency in at least one additional programming language: C, C , or Python.
• Experience working with mainframe systems and integrating legacy applications.
• Deep familiarity with software source control (e.g., Git, SVN) and bug tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for technical innovation.
• Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, geographically distributed team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience modernizing legacy Smalltalk applications and migrating to cloud or distributed environments.
• Prior experience in financial services, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices.
