Role Description
We are seeking for a Fiber Optic Splicing Technician with strong skills in ribbon splicing (12f/24f/48f), case access, and fiber testing. This role supports night‑shift maintenance and construction windows for major telecom clients. Work is typically assigned in 1–2 night blocks, with additional projects following based on performance and availability.
You will work as part of a two‑technician crew, responsible for accessing existing splice cases, preparing fibers, performing ribbon mass fusion splicing, completing testing, and documenting results.
Key Responsibilities
- Access and prepare existing splice cases safely and efficiently
- Perform ribbon mass fusion splicing (12f, 24f, 48f depending on project)
- Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing
- Complete splice documentation, labeling, and as‑builtS/REDLINES
- Follow night‑shift access windows and coordinate with NOC/field teams
- CRITICAL: Maintain clean, organized splice trays and closures and document conditions before and after for reporting purposes.
- Troubleshoot fiber issues, identify faults, and perform corrective actions
- Ensure all work meets client quality standards and industry best practices
- Operate safely in manholes, handholes, and controlled access sites (limited or not aerial)
- Communicate clearly with project managers and other crew members
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of fiber splicing experience
- Proven experience with ribbon mass fusion splicing
- Strong understanding of fiber color codes, buffer tubes, and ribbon ID
- Proficiency with OTDR, power meter, and related test equipment
- Ability to work overnight shifts consistently
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces when required
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mastec, Lumen, AT&T, Zayo, Crown Castle, or similar carriers
- Experience working in 2‑person splicing crews
- Familiarity with EXFO, VIAVI, FUJIKURA, IDEAL INDUSTRIES equipment
- Certifications: FOA CFOT, ETA, or equivalent (not required but a plus)
