Duties
- Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones using standardized hand signals or flagging devices to maintain safety for all site personnel and the public
- Set up and remove traffic control signs, cones, barriers, and flagging stations in accordance with safety regulations and project plans
- Communicate effectively with construction crews, equipment operators, and drivers to coordinate movements and prevent accidents
- Monitor work zones continuously to identify potential hazards or unsafe behaviors, promptly addressing issues or alerting supervisors as needed
- Assist with the safe operation of heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, front loader trucks, and utility locating tools when required for site setup or cleanup
- Support paving activities by controlling traffic flow around paving crews and machinery to ensure smooth operations
- Maintain detailed records of daily activities, incidents, and safety checks to support compliance with safety standards
Qualifications
- Prior experience in construction site safety or traffic control is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for qualified candidates
- Ability to stand for extended periods and remain alert in outdoor environments under various weather conditions
- Strong communication skills to clearly convey instructions using hand signals or radios
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation such as dozer, loader, backhoe, grader, or utility locating tools is a plus but not required; willingness to learn is essential
- Familiarity with construction processes including paving and site setup enhances effectiveness on the job
- Valid certifications in flagging or traffic control are advantageous; certification programs are available through local training providers
- Basic understanding of construction site safety protocols and the importance of utility locating procedures
