What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barista position at Next Chapter Cafe?
Overview
We are looking to hire the perfect part to full time addition to our team at Next Chapter Cafe!
Daytime and weekend availability are important, as well as a MAST permit because we serve beer and wine.
It's The Sweet Things Bakery and Bry's Filipino Cuisine are two businesses owned by husband and wife Chef's - Next Chapter cafe located within Village Books - up on the mezzanine level, is our third business location.
It is a fusion of what we already do, along with great cafe beverages and a moderate breakfast and lunch menu, including salads, sandwiches etc. Everyone who works contributes to all of the tasks - food prep, dishwashing, shopping, etc.
We are looking for an individual who has a great customer service attitude, and the ability to quickly and efficiently multi-task with a positive disposition and friendly demeanor.
Barista experience will also be essential for this position.
Pay will be $19.13 an hour tips
At the end of every shift, you will tip out the Back of House/production team 20% and take the remainder of your tips home with you daily. The tip out will be split up among the bakers and cooks working offsite to create everything being sold at the cafe.

Responsibilities
- Barista and Cashier duties
- Counter service ( pay when they order and you will bring their food and beverage into the dining area when it is ready)
- Attention to daily inventory
- Consistent communication with ownership and team leads about daily tasks and expectations
- Washing dishes in a three compartment sink/under counter dishwasher setup
- Light food prep - chopping vegetables and prepping other food for next day service etc.
- Cleaning
- Balancing POS at the end of shift
Qualifications
- Knowledge of food safety practices and proper food handling techniques is essential.
- Basic math skills.
- Previous barista experience is required.
- Familiarity with cash register operations and Square POS system is a plus.
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a busy environment.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented atmosphere while also being able to take initiative when necessary.
- Passion for food and commitment to delivering high-quality food and beverages in a café setting.
