Position Summary

 

The Industrial Reliability Technician I performs industrial reliability services under the guidance of an Industrial Reliability Technician II or III while continuing to develop the technical knowledge, field experience, and judgment required for independent field work. This position supports the installation, maintenance, and improvement of customer reliability systems while building proficiency across the department's core services.

 

Industrial Reliability Technicians are expected to develop technical competency through hands-on field experience while demonstrating professionalism, craftsmanship, accountability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

 

This position represents the next step in the Carson Industrial Services technical career path and prepares employees for future advancement into an Industrial Reliability Technician II role.


Work Schedule

 

Industrial Reliability Services operates around our customers' production schedules, planned maintenance outages, and emergency service needs. As a result, work schedules are not always Monday through Friday or limited to traditional business hours.

 

Employees should expect varying start times, early mornings, extended workdays, overnight travel, weekend work, and occasional holiday work when required to support customer operations. Flexibility and reliability are essential to the success of this position.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety

  • Perform all work in accordance with company and customer safety requirements.
  • Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-job planning.
  • Maintain required certifications and training.
  • Stop work whenever an unsafe condition exists.
  • Perform duties as a Confined Space Entrant and Attendant when required.
  • Promote safe work practices through personal example.

Reliability Services

Assist with and progressively develop proficiency in:

  • Precision lubrication
  • Oil changes
  • Oil sampling
  • Fuel polishing
  • Offline filtration
  • Kidney loop installation
  • Varnish removal through filtration
  • Hydraulic reservoir teardown and deep cleaning
  • Breather upgrades
  • Chain lubrication systems
  • Automatic lubrication system installation
  • Thermal imaging inspections to support equipment reliability assessments
  • Equipment inspections and contamination control

Project Execution

  • Perform assigned work under the direction of a Tech II or Tech III.
  • Develop proficiency in the department's core services through field experience.
  • Assist with troubleshooting while learning diagnostic techniques.
  • Verify completed work with the lead technician before project completion.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout each project.
  • Progressively assume greater responsibility as competency is demonstrated.

Customer Relations

  • Represent the company professionally at all times.
  • Professionally interact with customer personnel.
  • Communicate work progress as directed by the lead technician.
  • Observe and document opportunities for reliability improvements.
  • Refer technical recommendations, scope changes, pricing discussions, and customer concerns to the lead technician.

Documentation

Complete accurate and timely:

  • Daily service reports.
  • Time reporting.
  • Parts usage.
  • Job documentation.
  • Before-and-after photographs.
  • Safety documentation.

Documentation is expected to be complete, accurate, and submitted on time.


Equipment & Vehicle Responsibility

  • Maintain assigned tools and equipment.
  • Help maintain company vehicles in a clean and organized condition.
  • Document inventory replenishment needs.
  • Assist in maintaining department equipment.
  • Report damaged or missing equipment promptly.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Lead by example through professionalism and work ethic.
  • Support Laborers by demonstrating safe work practices and quality workmanship.
  • Share knowledge and assist teammates whenever possible.
  • Accept coaching and actively pursue technical growth.
  • Contribute to a positive and productive team environment.

Authority & Decision Making

An Industrial Reliability Technician I is expected to exercise sound judgment while continuing to develop technical knowledge and field experience.

 

May Independently

  • Perform assigned tasks within demonstrated competency.
  • Operate company vehicles and department equipment.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Maintain assigned tools and equipment.
  • Communicate routine project updates as directed by the lead technician.

Must Elevate to a Tech II, Tech III, or Management

  • Technical questions beyond training or experience.
  • Customer requests outside the approved project scope.
  • Additional work opportunities.
  • Equipment concerns requiring advanced troubleshooting.
  • Customer complaints.
  • Environmental incidents.
  • Safety concerns requiring additional guidance.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Confined Space Entrant and Attendant qualified.
  • Ability to travel and work overtime as required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic computer and mobile device skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industrial or mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Experience using common hand and power tools.
  • Experience with lubrication or hydraulic systems.
  • Forklift experience.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Work at heights using approved fall protection.
  • Kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in awkward positions.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel, work extended hours, overnight assignments, weekends, and occasional holidays as required by customer and project schedules.
