Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily nursing operations within the unit, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal patient care delivery.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff, fostering professional growth and maintaining high standards of practice.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to inform care plans.
  • Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and manage catheter care following strict medical documentation and HIPAA regulations.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary team efforts for discharge planning, case management, and utilization review to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain compliance with state healthcare regulations, long-term care regulations, and nursing policy standards.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of medical records and nursing notes.
  • Manage emergency situations including airway management, ventilator support, and critical & intensive care procedures in accordance with Level I Trauma Center standards.
  • Ensure infection control protocols are rigorously followed to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, clinical excellence, and staff performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure required.
  • Proven leadership experience in nursing management or supervisory roles within acute or long-term care settings.
  • Extensive clinical background including critical care experience such as ICU or Level I Trauma Center experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, behavioral health patients, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
  • Excellent managerial communication skills to coordinate multidisciplinary teams effectively.
  • Ability to perform complex procedures such as phlebotomy, specimen collection/processing, suturing, and sterile techniques confidently.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance standards essential for maintaining confidentiality and legal adherence.
  • Physical ability to perform duties requiring standing for extended periods and assisting with patient mobility using lifts like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
