Anesthesia Technician -NYP/Weill Cornell Medical Center-Evenings

Under general supervision and following established procedures, the Anesthesia Technician assures the quality of service and monitoring for patients undergoing anesthesia in all anesthetizing locations throughout the hospital.  Maintains, services, sets up, tests, and troubleshoots equipment and provides technical assistance to the Anesthesia staff in the care of patients.  

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists the anesthesia staff in the set up and initialization of hemodynamic monitoring equipment.

2. Assists anesthesia staff in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia which involves the following: Transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table; attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment; Positioning and hold patients for procedures, i.e spinal, epidurals; Assist in endotracheal intubations by preparing and holding equipment; Assist in transfer from operating room to PACU.

3. Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs (i.e. battery changes, cable swapping, monitor checks) of anesthesia equipment.

4. Prepares blood pressure transducers.  Calibrates them to the appropriate machine.  Sets up IV solutions and IV infusions.

5. Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as, but not limited to, connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits.  Delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed.

6. Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in OR during use, repairing or replacing as necessary.

7. Acts as a liaison to clinical support departments to ensure that all Anesthesia clinical needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner.

8. Assists supervisor in orientation and on-the-job training of employees.

9. Assumes other related duties as needed.

This position is located at NYP/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The shift is 1pm-9pm and works Sunday-Thursday.

Preferred Criteria

• ASATT certification

• Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician

• Previous surgical or procedural experience

• Mechanical training or experience with equipment, including knowledge of the operation of sterilizers and sterility techniques
   

Required Criteria

• High School Diploma or GED

• Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support

• 1 year of operating room experience or patient care area
