Purpose of Position
To maintain the grounds/sports facilities at district buildings providing pleasing curb appeal for our students and guests.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
- Operate equipment including, but not limited to the following: Lawn mowers, tractors, weed trimmers, edger, snow blower, and soil aeration apparatus
- Maintain planter areas so they are free of weeds and trash
- Mow and trim all grass areas
- Remove trash from receptacles and clear trash from the grounds
- Snow removal functions such as shoveling, driving removal equipment and spreading ice melt
- Tree and shrub pruning/ trimming/removal
- Help to set up/take down events as needed
- Maintain equipment by performing tasks such as unit cleaning, filter and lubricant changes, blade sharpening and changing, keeping tires at proper inflation
- Availability to work overtime for events like graduation, prom and some sporting events
- Watering of grass and plants as needed
- Supervise summer lawn crew
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities
- Work with the district Director of Facilities on a grounds maintenance master plan
Minimum Training and Experience Required
- High School Graduate or GED
- Two years' experience in grounds maintenance
- Current Kansas driver license
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Ability to operate and perform minor service on grounds equipment.
- Effective communication skills
- Good demeanor around children
- Team player with a can do attitude
- Basic computer skills
Physical and Mental Abilities Required
- Work outside for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions.
- Frequent bending and walking
- Lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Safely operate equipment around people and vehicles
