REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE

JOB GOALS: Plans, develops, implements, directs, reviews and evaluates the programs and activities related to instructional and information technology. Programs and activities include use of technology to improve staff productivity and student learning; use of technology to maintain data and meet reporting requirements; coordination of purchase, installation, repair and use of electronic equipment, software, computers and peripherals; coordination of staff training to optimize technology use; development, optimization and oversight of district technology budget. Takes initiative in developing and implementing a district­wide technology plan.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month position; salary commensurate with experience and ability as determined by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Provides visionary and effective leadership, oversight, and supervision of programs and personnel housed at the Educational Technology Center.
  • Oversees the ongoing development and implementation of the District's technology plan, working with district and building leadership in the implementation of a technology program focused on effective classroom integration and appropriate support for management/administrative functions.
  • Recommends and assists with professional development activities in the use of technology as instructional and/or management tools.
  • Reviews and evaluates new hardware/software as it is developed and communicates such evaluation to the instructional leaders of the district; recommends the purchase of computer hardware and software that supports instructional and/or management functions and aligns with the district technology plan.
  • Designs and implements a system for providing technical support to all schools and provides on-site assistance as needed.
  • Coordinates the purchase, installation, and distribution of computer hardware and software.
  • Maintains an inventory of computer and other technological equipment and maintains a catalog of software in the district; coordinates an annual software audit on all district computers to ensure license compliance.
  • Models effective professional growth by seeking out and attending classes/seminars/ conferences/workshops related to position and as approved by immediate supervisor.
  • Oversees the design, implementation, maintenance, security, and continuous improvement of the district's technology infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, voice and video systems, servers, cloud services, data storage, identity and access management, internet connectivity, fiber infrastructure, backup and disaster recovery systems, and other technologies that support instructional and operational needs.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees the District's comprehensive cybersecurity program, including information security governance, risk assessment, security awareness training, identity and access management, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, incident response planning, disaster recovery, business continuity, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing data privacy and information security.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual budget requests for technological hardware and software after consultation with the District's instructional leaders; oversees/monitors the technology budget.
  • Oversees the operation, maintenance, and security of the district's electronic surveillance systems; ensures system functionality, provides training to authorized personnel on system use, and assists with the retrieval and preservation of video evidence for school investigations and law enforcement requests in accordance with district policy and applicable law.
  • Coordinates and provides district-wide training and support for administrative assistants and other support staff in the effective use of district technology systems, office applications, and administrative procedures to promote consistency, efficiency, and high-quality customer service.
  • Attends Board meetings and/or prepares reports for the Board upon request.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Experience And Education

Any combination of education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the required duties. A typical qualifying background might include: a bachelor's or master's degree; five years of increasing responsibility working with information/instructional technology; experience supervising others; familiarity with school district operations; work experience in a school setting. Experience in the K-­12 setting is highly desirable.
