Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing specialized administrative tasks related to motor vehicle
title and tag applications, renewals, and tax payments. The role ensures compliance with applicable
regulations while delivering excellent customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Greet and assist customers with motor vehicle title and tag applications, including new
purchases, transfers, replacement titles, and title corrections.
- Explain insurance lapses and collect Department of Revenue (DOR) fines.
- Process tag renewals and issue or exchange license plates and disabled parking placards.
- Verify documentation for accuracy prior to processing.
- Accept and process motor vehicle tax payments.
- Maintain and manage tag inventory.
- Balance and reconcile daily cash drawer transactions; accountable for all funds collected.
- Record and verify personal information for check acceptance.
- Respond to telephone inquiries, providing accurate information and support.
- Compute Fair Market Value (FMV) of vehicles using NADA guides and related resources.
- Explain applicable laws and calculate Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) for prospective vehicle
- File, scan, and maintain records, including disability-related documentation and correspondence
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive taxpayer information.
- Respond to taxpayer mail and email inquiries.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others.
- Proficiency in computers and job-related software applications.
- Strong understanding of customer service principles.
- Knowledge of Georgia state tag, title, and tax collection laws and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong planning, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
Guidelines
Duties must adhere to state and local regulations including Georgia property tax laws, motor vehicle
tag and title laws, and departmental policies. While guidelines are generally clear, some interpretation
may be required.
Complexity and Scope of Work
This role involves a combination of administrative and clerical tasks with a high degree of accuracy
and frequent interruptions. Successful execution ensures smooth and efficient department operations.
Contacts
Frequent interaction with coworkers, other county departments, automobile dealers, attorneys, law
enforcement personnel, banking and mortgage representatives, and the general public. Responsibilities
include information exchange, issue resolution, and service delivery.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Duties are typically performed in an office setting, involving sitting, standing, walking, and
occasional light lifting (up to 25 pounds).
- Work requires manual dexterity and visual acuity.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not include supervisory or management responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related
field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a general office environment required.
- One year of cash handling experience preferred.
