QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
NC Teaching Certification – Health Science Education (RN) 720
Unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse
The 40-hour New Teacher Induction Program approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Division of Career and Technical Education. (NOTE: Required before the end of first year of teaching.)
Two years industry-related work experience within the past five years.
Work experience must be in a related work field.
Examples of Related Degrees: Nursing
Examples of Related Work Experience: nursing, post-secondary nursing instruction if clinical instruction is included in responsibilities.
Skills / Abilities:
Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability and desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others in an educational/learning environment.
Proficiency in common computer desktop applications required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop lesson plans based on the North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards Guide
Cover all parts of the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) Nurse Aide I (NAI) curriculum and help students to prepare for the National Nurse Aide Assessment (NNAAP).
Introduce students to medical terminology, the history of health care, healthcare agencies, ethics, and legal responsibilities.
Introduce students to health careers, holistic health, and healthcare trends.
Create lesson plans to teach students health care skills, including CPR and first aid training for healthcare professionals.
Provide normal maintenance of equipment to ensure that inventory is up to date and available.
Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
Use appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative and innovative thinking capabilities of students.
Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Follow all safety procedures.
