Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining a strong, engaged volunteer network that supports Newton at Home's mission and services. This position leads volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, and retention efforts while building meaningful relationships with volunteers and identifying opportunities to strengthen volunteer engagement throughout the organization.

Working closely with the Member Services Coordinator and Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator helps ensure the organization has a robust and responsive volunteer base capable of meeting the evolving needs of members and programs.

This role is relationship-focused and ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with people, building community, and creating meaningful volunteer experiences.

This position will begin as a part-time role and may expand in scope and hours based on organizational needs, performance, and available funding.



Key ResponsibilitiesVolunteer Recruitment & Community Outreach
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit new volunteers aligned with organizational needs.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to community organizations, businesses, faith communities, colleges, and other potential volunteer sources.
  • Represent Newton at Home at volunteer fairs, community events, networking opportunities, and recruitment events.
  • Collaborate with the Member Services Coordinator and Executive Director to identify evolving volunteer needs and recruitment priorities.
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospective volunteers and track recruitment activities.

  • Volunteer Onboarding & Training
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective volunteers throughout the onboarding process.
    • Coordinate volunteer orientations and training sessions.
    • Develop, maintain, and update volunteer training materials, manuals, and onboarding resources.
    • Ensure volunteers complete required paperwork, background checks, and onboarding requirements.
    • Work with staff to identify opportunities for additional volunteer training and development.

  • Volunteer Experience & Recognition
    • Foster positive volunteer experiences to encourage retention and long-term involvement.
    • Maintain regular communication with volunteers to build strong relationships and support ongoing engagement.
    • Conduct volunteer check-ins and gather feedback regarding volunteer experiences.
    • Develop and maintain systems to recognize volunteer contributions throughout the year.
    • Create and implement volunteer appreciation initiatives and recognition programs.
    • Lead the planning and execution of volunteer appreciation events and volunteer recognition activities.
    • Identify opportunities for volunteers to deepen their involvement with the organization.
    • Monitor volunteer participation trends and develop strategies to strengthen retention and engagement.

  • Volunteer Records & Administrative Support
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, including contact information, onboarding status, training completion, participation history, and volunteer interests.
    • Manage volunteer-related documentation and administrative processes.
    • Generate reports related to volunteer recruitment, retention, and participation as requested.
    • Coordinate volunteer communications and maintain volunteer mailing and contact lists.
    • Supervise and support office volunteers who assist with administrative tasks.


    Collaboration & Program Support 
    • Collaborate closely with the Member Services Coordinator to ensure volunteer resources align with member needs.
    • Assist with volunteer scheduling and service assignments as needed.
    • Support staff and organizational events that involve volunteer participation.
    • Participate in regular staff meetings and planning sessions.
    • Support additional projects related to volunteer engagement as assigned.


    Communication, Responsiveness & Time Tracking
    • Monitor and respond to email and communications in a timely and professional manner during working hours.
    • Maintain clear documentation of ongoing projects, deadlines, and deliverables.
    • Provide regular updates on progress, priorities, and workload to the Executive Director.
    • Ensure work time is structured, productive, and aligned with organizational goals.



    Qualifications & Skills
    • College degree or a minimum of one to two years of successful experience in volunteer management, community engagement, nonprofit operations, or a related field preferred.
    • Experience recruiting, onboarding, training, or coordinating volunteers preferred.
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience planning events, volunteer recognition activities, or community engagement initiatives preferred.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage administrative processes.
    • Comfort using digital tools for communication, scheduling, databases, and time tracking.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Passion for community-based work and mission-driven organizations.
