ABC 17 News is looking for someone who wants to help grow the station’s news product and wants to work within a research-driven newsroom while growing his/her own career. The company is looking for a weekend evening NEWS ANCHOR/MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST. We are looking for a driven, creative, and versatile journalist who can excel both behind the desk and in the field. We need an anchor who is involved in the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, including developing and turning enterprise and investigative content. We need an enterprising reporter who is comfortable using social media and digital tools to tell stories and engage with our audience, and who works well as part of a team.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The duties for this position include anchoring/producing weekend nightly newscasts and reporting weekday nightly newscasts. The Anchor/MMJ will be responsible for copyediting, live reporting, web coverage, and social media posting, and may be called upon to take on additional newsroom responsibilities as news demands require. The ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, multi-platform newsroom is essential. Must be able to react swiftly and calmly to developing stories, providing real-time information and context across TV, digital, and streaming platforms. We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative graphics, and the use of digital and social media platforms.
SKILLS: The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong writing skills, solid news judgment, and a confident, professional on-air presence. We are looking for someone who can develop and produce engaging, accurate, and timely newscasts. You should be able to develop sources in assigned beats and regularly enterprise stories with strong daily investigative elements. You should be able to shoot, write, and edit news stories as a Multimedia Journalist.
HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position, scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 pm – 11:00 pm, and three weekdays to be determined with flexibility required by the employee.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Two-years of on-air news experience are preferred along with a bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The position will require the operation of a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use. Candidate must have a valid Missouri driver’s license, pass a drug test, and a background check.
