POSITION: CTE Advertising Design New Media Teacher

LOCATION: Rogers High School

REPORTS TO: Principal/ NACTC Director

SCHOOL YEAR: 2026/2027



JOB DESCRIPTION:  To develop in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the versatility of skills and knowledge applicable to the field of Advertising & Design, Photography, Multi-Media, Printing, Screen Printing, Sublimation, Embroidery & Laser Engraving. 

 

Instill in each student safe working habits, the importance of continuation of their education and the assets of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability. 



EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Hold or be currently eligible for a valid Rhode Island Career and Technical Education certificate in Secondary Grades CTE Teacher Certification, Grades 6-12 - Advertising & Design or Graphic Arts
  • A minimum of five (5) continuous years of professional experience or State of RI requirements within the advertising, graphic design, digital media, industry. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use Advertising & Design, Photography, Multi-Media, Printing, Screen Printing, Sublimation, Embroidery, Laser Engraving and emerging communication technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities listed below as evidenced by coursework, educational experience, school-level involvement, professional creative work, portfolio development, and the interview process.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and delivers group and individualized instruction designed to provide students with entry-level occupational skills in advertising design, graphic communications, digital media production, branding, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Integrates industry-standard tools including Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and other digital media technologies to support student learning and creative production.
  • Establishes and manages a student classroom/studio production schedule and maintains current progress reports, project assessments, and portfolio development records for all students.
  • Develops and maintains an inventory control system for computers, cameras, design software, multimedia equipment, and production supplies, maintaining stock control and reordering supplies as necessary.
  • Develops and implements a preventive maintenance schedule for printers, embroidery equipment, paper cutters, digital media equipment, computers, cameras, and design technology, including software updates and equipment upgrades as needed.
  • Plans and supervises the work of students in a digital media laboratory, design studio, and/or classroom environment, including collaborative creative projects, client-based work, and multimedia productions.
  • Evaluates and documents student achievement in design principles, advertising concepts, branding strategies, multimedia production, and technical software proficiency through competency-based assessments, project-based learning, and portfolio reviews.
  • Maintains an auditable record of student attendance and makes daily reports of students absent each period.
  • Instructs students in the ethical and responsible use of digital media, including copyright law, intellectual property, digital citizenship, media literacy, and safe use of all equipment.
  • Maintains and updates curriculum annually to reflect current advertising, marketing, graphic design, social media, and digital media industry standards, including emerging technologies and workforce trends.
  • Maintains standards of student conduct necessary to provide an orderly, safe, and productive project-based classroom and digital media lab environment.
  • Develops opportunities for students to build professional portfolios showcasing their design and multimedia work to support postsecondary education, internships, and employment opportunities.
  • Establishes and maintains a local advisory committee that builds relationships with local businesses, marketing firms, media organizations, and higher education partners to support internships, mentorships, and real-world project experiences.  
  • Maintains contact with the advertising, marketing, and digital media industry to remain informed of new technologies, platforms, and workforce expectations in order to assist students in developing marketable career skills.
  • Participates in faculty committees, student organizations, and career and technical student activities that enhance career and technical education programs.
  • Implements career and technical academic integration across all curriculum areas including communication, marketing, entrepreneurship, and design thinking.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of the Newport Area Career and Technical Center or designee.



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers’ Contract.  Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.
