BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of specialized and clerical duties related to the attendance function at an assigned school site; prepare, maintain and submit mandated student attendance records and reports in accordance with the California Education Code; train and provide work direction to assigned staff.

Perform a variety of specialized and clerical duties related to the attendance function at an assigned school site involving period-by-period attendance; prepare a variety of lists, forms, notices and correspondence related to assigned activities.
Assist students, staff and visitors at the attendance counter; place and receive phone calls and accept notes regarding student absences; process and verify student absence information from parents and teachers; issue admission slips to returning students in order to assure accurate absentee reporting; issue tardy slips to late arriving students; issue doctor notes and excusals to teachers and other appropriate persons in accordance with District policies and procedures.
Receive absence information from teachers; prepare and distribute daily reports to administrators and teachers; conduct yearly student enrollment audits and communicate with parents to confirm student attendance.
Maintain accurate records and lists of student attendance; enter or scan attendance, enrollment and change of status data into computer; maintain attendance data for District and State audits.
Prepare, maintain and submit mandated reports regarding student attendance and enrollment data in accordance with the California Education Code; review data and process according to established procedures.
Communicate with students, parents, teachers, personnel and staff regarding attendance and related issues; answer telephones to provide information and explain District and State attendance laws, regulations and policies; contact parents or guardians to determine and verify excused and unexcused absences.
Analyze and refer unusual attendance deviation to appropriate school personnel according to established procedures; assist in identifying and resolving problem of students with frequent absenteeism; prepare chronic absentee and SARB letters for administrators.
Assist with the evaluation of student Home Teaching Program eligibility; assist students and parents with the application process; disburse materials and lessons to appropriate persons; maintain related documentation.
Assist with conducting emergency drills; maintain emergency card files; assure accurate attendance counts; maintain related documentation.
Provide assistance to the Health Office as assigned by the position; provide first aid to students and provide medical supplies including band aids, sanitary items and ice bags; maintain related documentation; contact parents regarding medical concerns as required and in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and requirements; assist the nurse and the health office in issues regarding student health issues and attendance.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, scanner and a copier.
