What are the responsibilities and job description for the REGISTERED NURSE - OB/Float position at Newport Hospital and Health Services?
Primary Scheduled Hours: Nights, 12 hour shifts, 72 hours per pay period (48 in OB, 24 on-call)
Job Summary: Provides direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery, Recovery and Post-Partum settings. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby departments. Assists in Acute Care, Outpatient, and Emergency Department as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs and assists physician with care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients, including assisting with c-sections, educating families in infant and self-care.
- Meets current standards and policies of medication administration and documentation.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family, colleagues, and all members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Monitors and interprets fetal heart rate and uterine activity through continuous EFM, and palpations; Provides appropriate interventions and re-evaluation based on AWHONN and ACOG guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to obstetrical emergencies.
- Participates in departmental projects and performance improvement activities.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
- On call time is required; must be able to report to duty within 60 minutes of call in.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education Background and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education:
Associate degree Nursing
Required Licensure / Certifications:
Active Washington State RN license or eligible compact license
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP
AWHONN Intermediate EFM
Within 12 months: STABLE other applicable classes as mandated by contract.
Required Experience:
One (1) or more years of recent Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience (preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
