    • Provides basic life support (BLS) interventions including CPR, bleeding control, splinting, and basic airway management.
    • Administers limited advanced life support interventions, which may include intravenous (IV) fluid therapy, certain medication administrations (e.g., D50, Glucagon, Albuterol, Epinephrine), and advanced airway adjuncts (e.g., supraglottic airways; SGA) as per scope of practice and protocol.
    • Monitors vital signs and patient status continuously, recognizing changes and reporting them to higher-level providers or receiving facility staff.
    • Prepares and maintains accurate, complete, and timely patient care reports (PCRs) documenting all findings, interventions, and patient responses.
  • Operational Duties:
    • Assists in the safe and efficient operation of emergency vehicles, including navigation and proper use of warning devices.
    • Ensures the ambulance and medical equipment are clean, organized, properly stocked, and in good working order before, during, and after shifts.
    • Communicates effectively and professionally with dispatch, hospital staff, public safety agencies, and other healthcare providers.
    • Adheres strictly to all state and local EMS regulations, company policies, and medical protocols.
  • Teamwork and Professionalism:
    • Works collaboratively with EMTs and Paramedics to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
    • Maintains a professional demeanor, showing empathy, compassion, and respect for all patients and their families.
    • Participates in ongoing training and continuing education to maintain licensures and enhance skills.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in basic and limited advanced emergency medical procedures and patient assessment techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to react effectively in dynamic and stressful emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear patient interaction, accurate documentation, and effective team coordination.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, taking direction and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of EMS protocols, HIPAA regulations, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  • Competence in operating and maintaining emergency medical equipment.
  • Emotional stability and resilience to manage challenging and emotionally charged situations.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain equipment and documentation.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess a valid Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification from a state-recognized and accredited program.
  • Current state AEMT license is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be preferred or required by some services.
  • Prior experience as an EMT is often preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move patients and equipment weighing up to 150 lbs, often with assistance from a partner.
  • The role frequently requires kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and standing for extended periods to provide patient care.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme weather, confined spaces, and hazardous scenes.
  • Must possess the physical stamina and endurance to work long shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergencies at any time.

Other Duties:

  • This job description is not exhaustive and serves as a general outline of the responsibilities and qualifications for the AEMT position.
