Newkleo is hiring a Direct Support Specialist / Resident services Specialist for one of their clients in Alexandria, VA.
Job Description:
- The Resident Services Specialist provides direct support and guidance to individuals residing in the homeless shelter and hypothermia support locations, ensuring their well-being and progress towards self-sufficiency.
- This role involves assisting residents with daily needs, addressing immediate concerns, monitoring compliance with shelter rules, supporting resource distribution, and de-escalating conflicts.
- The Specialist also connects residents with appropriate resources, facilitates access to services, and encourages participation in programs that promote stability and personal growth.
- The Specialist is also responsible for completing necessary reports and documentation for each scheduled shift.
- This position may require standing, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
Skills Required:
- Experience working with adults experiencing homeless, diagnosed with behavior health disorders or are substance dependent.
- Counseling and crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Basic computers skills to maintain data in a Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
Experience Required:
- 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Education Required:
- High School Diploma
Education Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in human service field
Additional Information:
- Driver’s license required
