Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tool and Die Maker to join our team. As a Tool and Die Maker, you will be responsible for creating, repairing, and maintaining various types of tools, dies, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, precision, and strong problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces
- Set up and operate EDM machines to fabricate parts - Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, indicators etc.
- Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using hand tools or power tools - Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects using precision measuring instruments
- Test completed tools or dies to ensure that they meet specifications
- Troubleshoot issues with tooling or equipment and make necessary adjustments or repairs
- Collaborate with engineers or designers to develop new tooling designs or improve existing ones
Experience:
- Proven experience as a Tool and Die Maker or similar roles
- Strong knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for designing tooling components - Familiarity with CAM programming for CNC machines
- Experience with electrical discharge machining (EDM)
- Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints - Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Strong mathematical skills for calculations related to tooling design and fabrication - Familiarity with welding/heat treating techniques for tool and die repair
