What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bartender - Lead position at Newhall Refinery?
BAR LEAD – PART-TIME
Newhall Refinery is looking for a dependable, organized, and creative Bar Lead to help keep our bar clean, stocked, and running smoothly. This is a hands-on bartending position with a few additional leadership duties—not a full bar manager role.
We’re looking for someone who loves craft cocktails, stays current with bar trends, and is eager to bring fresh ideas that will help grow our bar program. Most importantly, this person must have a genuine love for hospitality and taking care of our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Bartend scheduled shifts while providing warm, attentive, and professional service.
- Make every guest feel welcomed, appreciated, and well cared for.
- Keep the bar, storage areas, coolers, tools, and equipment clean and organized.
- Ensure opening, closing, cleaning, and restocking duties are completed correctly.
- Help hold other bartenders accountable for maintaining our service and bar standards.
- Communicate respectfully when something needs to be corrected or completed.
- Check liquor, wine, mixers, garnishes, and other supplies for low or out-of-stock items.
- Assist management with basic liquor inventory counts when requested.
- Monitor beer kegs and notify management when a keg is empty, running low, or needs replacement.
- Report maintenance issues, missing products, breakage, and recurring bar concerns.
- Contribute fresh craft-cocktail ideas and help develop seasonal or trending drinks.
- Help ensure cocktails are prepared consistently and presented according to our standards.
- Communicate clearly with management without taking on full ordering or inventory-management responsibilities.
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine love for hospitality and creating memorable customer experiences.
- A customer-first mindset, even during busy or challenging shifts.
- Previous bartending experience, preferably with craft cocktails and craft beer.
- A strong serving background is required, as this person must be able to cover serving shifts when team members request time off.
- Creative and passionate about developing high-quality cocktails.
- Knowledge of current cocktail trends, ingredients, techniques, and presentation.
- Eager to contribute ideas and help grow the Newhall Refinery bar program.
- Strong organization and cleanliness standards.
- Dependable, proactive, and comfortable taking initiative.
- Able to give respectful direction and hold coworkers accountable.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Available for weekday lunch shifts, evenings, and weekends.
This position is ideal for an experienced bartender with a strong serving background who takes pride in hospitality, cares deeply about customers, and wants to help build a stronger craft-cocktail program without taking on all the responsibilities of a bar manager.
