Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

Newby's Contracting is a growing heavy civil contractor specializing in underground utilities, mass grading, site development, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, water systems, road construction, and infrastructure projects throughout North Alabama.

What You'll Do
- Prepare accurate estimates and competitive proposals for heavy civil construction projects.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, grading, and site development.
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Develop project budgets and assist with project handoff to operations.
- Review contracts and identify potential risks.
- Track bids and maintain communication with owners, general contractors, engineers, and municipalities.
- Assist with project scheduling during preconstruction.
- Identify and pursue new bidding opportunities.
- Work closely with field operations to continuously improve estimating accuracy.
What We're Looking For
- Experience estimating heavy civil construction projects preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Strong understanding of underground utilities, grading, earthwork, and site development.
- Experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Agtek, PlanSwift, Bid2Win, or similar is a plus.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and computer skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
- A team player who takes ownership and follows through.

Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Heavy civil estimating experience preferred
