What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Crossing Guard position at Newburyport Public Schools?
The School Crossing Guard will provide for the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the children across the roadway or intersection. The crossing guard works one morning shift and one afternoon shift approximately 30 minutes Monday through Friday, during the public school year. Hours will vary on early release and early dismissal days.
Responsibilities:
* Stop all traffic from the middle of the crosswalk before allowing any students to cross.
* Crossing Guard must use the stop sign and wear the reflective vest so to be seen from each traveling lane.
* Inform students not to cross the street until you have stopped all traffic.
* Remain in the crosswalk until all students have safely passed.
* Demonstrate commitment to safety.
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate.
Duties:
* Assists students, and provides safe access to and from school.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to deal effectively and courteously with children and the general public.
* Other duties, as assigned.
* Position pays $30 for morning (30 minutes) and afternoon (30 minutes) crossing.
* If one crossing morning or afternoon positon pays $15.
* This position is not benefits eligible.
* Start time varies by school.
