Job Summary
Newberry Group seeks Security Control Assessors (SCA) for a potential contract to begin in the next sixty days. These positions are responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for DOD IT systems.

Colorado Springs, CO
Hybrid position
Clearance/Certifications
DoD Secret Clearance required
Current DOD 8140 level I certification required, such as: CGRC/CAP or CASP or CCSP or Cloud or SSCP or Security or GSEC required
Contingencies
Contingent on Contract Award
Primary Responsibilities:
The Security Control Assessors evaluate and validate the security posture of information systems supporting academic, administrative, and operational missions. The SCA plays a critical role in the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, ensuring systems meet stringent DoD cybersecurity standards before and during operation.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Security Control Assessors evaluate and validate the security posture of information systems supporting academic, administrative, and operational missions. The SCA plays a critical role in the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process, ensuring systems meet stringent DoD cybersecurity standards before and during operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct independent assessments of security controls implemented on information systems
- Review and evaluate System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms)
- Provide formal recommendations to the Authorizing Official (AO) regarding system authorization decisions
- Ensure compliance with DoD, Air Force, and NIST cybersecurity policies and frameworks (e.g., NIST SP 800-53, DoDI 8510.01)
- Collaborate with Information System Owners (ISOs), Information System Security Officers (ISSOs), and Engineers (ISSEs) to ensure effective security control implementation
- Participate in continuous monitoring activities and periodic reassessments
- Maintain documentation and audit trails in eMASS or other DoD-approved tools
- Support cybersecurity inspections, audits, and incident response efforts as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
- At least 3 years of experience in Assessor roles
- DoD 8140 certification
- Strong knowledge of RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and DoD cybersecurity compliance requirements
- Proficiency with tools such as eMASS, ACAS, and HBSS
- Experience working in a hybrid military or academic environment
- Familiarity with cloud security and FedRAMP-authorized systems
- Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills
