We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Produce Manager to oversee daily operations within our grocery store. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the produce department, ensuring product quality, maintaining inventory levels, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role requires strong leadership skills, retail management experience, and the ability to coordinate a team effectively. The Produce Manager will play a key role in driving sales and profit, optimizing store presentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and health standards.
Duties
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the produce department, including stocking, merchandising, and inventory control
- Manage inventory levels through effective purchasing, ordering, and stock rotation to minimize waste and maximize freshness
- Lead and train staff on proper product handling, customer service techniques, and safety procedures
- Implement pricing strategies and promotional displays to increase sales and enhance store appearance
- Conduct regular quality checks on produce to ensure freshness and compliance with health standards
- Develop staff and ensure efficient team management
- Collaborate with vendors for purchasing, quality control and product sourcing
- Maintain accurate administrative records related to inventory, country of origin and sales data
- Coordinate marketing efforts for produce promotions to attract customers
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and store policies
- Ensure proper ineventory control processes, controls and procedures are in place and followed.
- Prepare and take physical inventories quarterly
Requirements
- Prefereably management experience in retail or grocery store environments, preferably within produce or perishable goods departments. Applicable experience would also be considered
- Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising teams and employee development
- Excellent communication skills; bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse customer bases
- Proficiency in inventory management systems, POS operations, merchandising, and retail math
- Experience in merchandising for sales, purchasing, budgeting, and sales management strategies
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in stock control and store presentation
- Knowledge of marketing techniques relevant to retail environments
- Demonstrated ability in training & development, team management, and shift management
- Customer service-oriented mindset with excellent phone etiquette and organizational skills
- Previous assistant manager or supervisory experience is highly desirable
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced retail setting
