Overview
Newark Day Nursery and Children's Center (NDNCC) is a NAEYC accredited, nonprofit childcare center, providing early childhood education and school age care to children and youth regardless of family income. This year, we are celebrating 65 years of service!
We are in search of an educated and experienced School Age Care (SAC) Program Director. This person is responsible for the planning, supervision, management, and evaluation of the before and after school program, along with summer camp, and works in close collaboration with the Executive Director and Early Childhood Education Program Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages the development of an established curriculum and on-going updates of developmentally appropriate curriculum for SAC programs in cooperation with professional staff.
- Creates weekly lesson plans to integrate with the full spectrum of the curriculum, and provides support to teachers in implementing the curriculum
- Identifies problems or challenges in program operations and develops proactive and effective training programs for staff
- Works with HR Coordinator to ensure timely renewal of staff requirements, recruits qualified staff, and develops training plans to maintain a stable workforce by ensuring new staff receives appropriate orientation for classroom performance and safety of children.
- Coordinates with Admin Team in preparation for annual licensing visit, ensures professional teaching staff remains in compliance with licensing regulations, and provides recommendations for changes to the Executive Director
- Conducts periodic checks on established policy and procedures to ensure compliance, including communication books in each class, appropriate weekly planning activity planning, health best practices, and others.
- Develops procedures and methods for measuring staff performance against expectations (e.g., job description, teaching methods, personal goals, establish curriculum, outcome evaluation) which includes regular supervisory meetings, periodic formal observations and yearly performance evaluations.
- Researches and develops new program initiatives, and seeks out new partnerships and relationships with community, educational and other organizations to develop educational, enrichment, or other services for school age children and their parents/guardians.
- Develops long term goals for SAC’s enhancement or changes to meet customer needs.
- Helps to coordinate and prepare to ensure re-accreditation is awarded and provides policy/program recommendations to ED for consideration to achieve accreditation.
- Regularly communicates with parents/guardians, and works alongside families to provide support for children who may need additional special educational, social, medical, or psychological intervention services
- Coordinates transportation to/from school during the academic year, including training drivers and maintaining driver clearances.
- Coordinates paperwork for summer camp enrollment (application, registration packet, calendar, contracts, etc.), monitors the return of paperwork and requested information, and does intake and discharges for all students at the start/end of summer

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.
- Five years’ progressive supervisory experience.
- Must qualify as an Early Childhood Administrator per requirements set by DEEDS
The SAC/Camp Program Director should possess the following skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven experience in education administration or program management within a school or community setting.
- Strong background in higher education teaching or university experience related to early childhood or elementary education.
- Effective communication skills for engaging with children, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Knowledge of best practices in working with students across diverse backgrounds to support inclusive participation.
- Ability to organize multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
