This role requires expertise in JVM internals, distributed tracing, cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, and production performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement Service Level Objectives (SLOs), performance budgets, and latency/throughput targets.
- Design and implement enterprise observability and distributed tracing strategies using Dynatrace, AWS X-Ray, or similar tools.
- Analyze application and infrastructure performance using heap dumps, thread dumps, flame graphs, GC logs, network traces, and storage I/O profiling.
- Identify and mitigate performance bottlenecks across applications, middleware, databases, and cloud platforms.
- Review system architecture for scalability, resiliency, and performance risks.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for production and pre-production performance incidents.
- Develop capacity planning models and establish performance baselines.
- Optimize JVM performance, garbage collection, thread management, and concurrency.
- Tune Kubernetes, Docker, and container runtime environments for optimal performance.
- Optimize networking, caching, messaging platforms, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
- Collaborate with architecture, development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to improve system performance.
- Document performance findings and recommend best practices for continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Strong experience in Performance Engineering for enterprise applications.
- Expertise in Spring Boot internals and JVM performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with distributed tracing tools such as Dynatrace and AWS X-Ray.
- Experience analyzing heap dumps, thread dumps, GC logs, flame graphs, and application profiling.
- Strong understanding of container platforms including Docker, Kubernetes, and PCF.
- Experience optimizing cloud-native applications running on AWS.
- Knowledge of networking, load balancing, DNS, TLS, service mesh, and distributed systems.
- Experience tuning Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Hazelcast, and similar middleware platforms.
- Strong database performance tuning experience including connection pools, indexing, and query optimization.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
