What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Position in Biophysics of DNA Loop Extrusion position at New York Structural Biology Center?
NYSBC and Center for Computational Biology, Flatiron Institute
The New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC) and the Center for Computational Biology (CCB) of the Simons Foundation's Flatiron Institute invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the biophysics of DNA loop extrusion to be part of an interdisciplinary collaboration between experimental and computational biologists.
This inter-institutional collaboration aims to advance the understanding of fundamental chromosome organization processes by developing experimental and computational frameworks for analyzing the dynamics and mechanics of DNA loop extrusion by structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) complexes.
The successful candidate will join vibrant and collaborative research communities at NYSBC and CCB, working at the intersection of biophysics, structural biology, and computational modeling. The postdoctoral fellow will study the biophysical and mechanical basis of DNA loop extrusion using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) of SMCs acting on DNA in vitro and develop cryo-EM heterogeneity analysis techniques to construct and test coarse-grained biophysical models of SMC mechanics and loop extrusion dynamics.
Minimum Qualifications:

About NYSBC and CCB
The New York Structural Biology Center is a global leader in structural biology. The Center’s main facility comprises 50,000 square feet in Upper Manhattan and houses advanced instrumentation in Cryoelectron Microscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Protein Production. Its X-ray crystallographic facility is located at the National Synchrotron Light Source II at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. NYSBC is led by world leaders in structural biology and an outstanding staff of 50 researchers.
The Flatiron Institute, an internal research division of the Simons Foundation, is a community of scientists who are working to use modern computational tools to advance our understanding of science, both through the analysis of large, rich datasets and through the simulations of physical processes. CCB's mission is to develop modeling tools and theory for understanding biological processes and to create computational frameworks that will enable the analysis of the large, complex data sets being generated by new experimental technologies.
